Leopard & MAMP PRO: MySQL problem

Post by severin » Thu 15. Nov 2007, 09:43

EDIT: MAMP PRO 1.7.1 addresses known Leopard issues. The following info is valid for MAMP PRO 1.7.

Hi,

some users experienced a problem with mysql that has following symptoms:

- MySQL server starts and MAMP PRO displays that the server is running but MySQL isn't working as expected.
- phpMyAdmin and/or mysql_error_log contains an error message like:
Can't create/write to file '/var/folders/[here can the message vary]' (Errcode: 13)
It seems at the moment that the management of the temporary folders and files has changed in Leopard. It looks like MySQL tries to create it's temp files in a location where it doesn't have a permission to write.

We are still evaluating this problem but there is a possibly workaround for this problem:

1. In MAMP PRO open the my.cnf template (menu File > Edit Template > MySQL my.cnf)

2. Find the line that reads:

Code: Select all

[mysqld]
and after this line add a new line that reads:

Code: Select all

tmpdir=/tmp
3. Save the template, restart the servers.

This should solve the problem, please let me know if not.

Thanks,

Where is this mystery file?

Post by zav » Fri 1. Feb 2008, 11:02

I just downloaded MAMP again and installed it and can not find the file you are mentioning on my hard drive.

It would be nice if you mentioned where it is.

Thanks.

Hi zav,

as you downloaded MAMP and MAMP PRO recently you should have the version > 1.7, so you don't have to worry about this this work-around.

Thanks,

Change MySQL Port Number

Post by rmccoy777 » Thu 28. Feb 2008, 00:30

Mac Mini (intel) 10.5.2 MAMP 1.7.1

Could not get sql to start, change port number to 3306 and it works great. You DO have to leave Apache port at 8888.

Works GREAT!!

Mamp Pro Mysql problem.

Post by yesewsew » Mon 7. Apr 2008, 18:44

I am using Mamp Pro since Dec/07. It was working fine up to now but now, I exported a 67.7 MB database from one of my Imac computer and wanted to import it on my macbook Pro Computer. When trying to import it, I get an Error - "You probably tried to upload too large file. please refer to documentation for ways to workaround this limit"-.

I went ahead and changed the "memory_limit" upto 128MB, and the "upload_max_filesize" to 32MB, but I still have the same problem.

What should I do next? I am very new to all these "big dump" things. Is there a tutorial some where/ or can some body here tell me how to deal with it? I bought the Mamp Pro not because I am professional, but to be fare to the developer. In another word, I am just a newbie.
Thaks for your help

copy the code below and save it as bigdump.php

add a folder to your htdocs folder called 'dump' and put both this attached file and your sql file into it. Next edit the attached php file and change the details for your database. Now visit your site (http://localhost/dump/bigdump.php)

if you have done it right it will do it all for you.

The problem is also present in 1.7.2, contrarily to what declared in another post here.

As has been mentioned already - some two weeks ago, the MAMP pro - mySQL problem has NOT been fixed, nor has anyone yet provided a work-around. In fact, no one really seems interested in dealing with this.

Changing the port numbers has no effect.
editing the MySQL my.cnf file has no effect (and in v. 1.72 is already done).

Is this issue simply dead?
Has anyone identified what the problem is?
Can we expect a working version soon?

I bought MAMP pro v 1.72, and have yet to launch it successfully. What did I spend the money on?
As I am forced to continue using MAMP std, can I trade back my pro license for the money I wasted?

severin wrote:EDIT: MAMP PRO 1.7.1 addresses known Leopard issues.

Code: Select all

tmpdir=/tmp
3. Save the template, restart the servers.

This should solve the problem, please let me know if not.

Thanks,

After installing oscommerce I was getting this error: Can't create/write to file '/var/folders/[here can the message vary]' (Errcode: 13)

So I did exactly what you written and It works grate now.

One of the site admin (Dirk Einecke) logged in on February 5; that is the last apparition I can track.

I installed MAMP PRO on a MacBook I recently bought, and it works. I don't understand why it doesn't work on my Mac Mini, and I will try to install MAMP PRO once again, just to see if it now works; maybe the difference is in the Mac OS X installed, and it could be the latest version changed something that makes it more compatible with MAMP PRO.
Still, I don't understand why I was able to run MAMP, but not MAMP PRO.
