I would really like to be able to use PHP5.3 and in addition I'd like it to come with the pecl_http extension. It would be really great if that could happen in the nearest future, such as this month! One last thing, people should have the option to be able to add on a version of PHP5.2 if they so wish.

Actually I switch all my application from mamp to xampp (php 5.3.0) but i hope to use php 5.3.1, so if mamp don't switch to php 5.3.1 soonly, i quit :)

Seriously when can we hope to see a mamp version with php 5.3.1 ?

Come on guys, PHP 5.3 has been out for months - they're moving towards a second bug fix release, surely it's time to release MAMP with PHP 5.3 in? I've had to go back to XAMPP having bought MAMP PRO, which I love - it pains me to know I'm not using the best tool!

A good option is to ability to choose between PHP 5.2.x and PHP 5.3.x

Yup I'd go with that - choose between 4.4, 5.2 and 5.3 :-)

Come on guys!!

You can get the source for all the packages used in MAMP from sourceforge, so you could compile 5.3.
When I get a minute, I'm going to try compiling PHP 5.2 and add 5.3 as the PHP4 option instead of PHP4 - don't think it will be soon though.

Yeah I already tried that - I'm on Snow Leopard which is 64-bit. So compiling PHP became a nightmare and I gave up in the end.

I'm running it in 32bit mode, so hopefully I'll have a bit more luck.
If you want to contact me, we could talk via IM or Skype and get this done - I'm working on a PHP 5.2 project at the moment, but in about a month, I'm going to be working on the PHP 5.3 project again, so it would certainly be nice to not have to start up XAMPP

PHP 4.x is so old, no longer supported by the PHP teams, running it is a huge security risk, why should the next version of MAMP have a PHP 4 option? :)

Also, I can confirm that ExpressionEngine runs on MAMP/PRO, the biggest issue was figuring out why it was silently failing on installation, this was due to the xDebug/Zend Optimizer conflict. You cannot run xDebug and Zend Optimizer simultaneously. Zend Guarded files (as EE has for the trial) require Zend Optimizer.

Any status on the release of MAMP with PHP 5.3? :)

I'll testing the very first beta of MAMP 1.9 today. We've no release date. It's done, when it's done.
