MAMP ignores changes to DirectoryIndex in httpd.conf

Post by brewermfnyc » Sat 2. Jul 2011, 17:10

If I add index.shtml to the list in DirectoryIndex in the httpd.conf file, MAMP does not load that file by default as the directory's index page.

Like so:

Code: Select all

DirectoryIndex index.html index.php index.shtml
If I add it though an .htaccess file or in each virtual server's "Customized virtual host directory settings" the index.shtml file loads fine by default.

It seems like changes to this setting are being ignored globally - for all virtual servers. Not a big deal - I don't have many sites where I'm using .shtml and can add them one by one easily enough - but it does seem like a bug.

Maybe you intend for folks not to be able to change the httpd.conf file manually, but there doesn't seem to be a place to control this option within the MAMP Pro interface.

MAMP Pro 1.9.6.1
Mac 10.5.8

Thanks.
Matthew

That isn't enough to make it work. Have you added the additional directives for SSI?

OK, so basically I had to add the .htm extension to mamp pro. MAMP was easy. Applications/MAMP/conf/apache/httpd.conf
search for index.html and youll find the line to add all the index.*** and default.*** you need.

HOWEVER

MAMP PRO is different. First of all you nee dot go to [commang+shift]+G and type in /LIBRARY then goto aplication support/appsolute/MAMP PRO/conf/httpd.conf

So i am on mountain lion but this is what i had to do. copy it to my desktop. open it in a text editor (i use espresso) and search for index.html to find the line where you can add your other default files, in my case it's index.htm

THEN do a search for shtml and you'll find two lines that start with addtype and attoutputfilter.

Copy them and paste them underneath and replace .shtml with the extension u need. in my case, .htm.

VOILA

WHat happens to me in this case is that MAMP automatically overwrites the new httpd.conf with the old one when I start Apache. Any help here?
