Correct Update

Postby tapry » Fri Jul 27, 2007 7:42 pm

Hi friends:

I have installed the 1.4.1 version of MAMP on my 24" iMac.

I have just downloaded the new version 1.6.1 and I don't know if I install the new version i'm going to loose all my databases in phpmyadmin... and all the settings

Could anyone to tell how to do a correct update of MAMP without loosing my jobs please?

Thanks!!

Hi tapry,

to update MAMP and keep all your settings and databases do it this way:

1. Stop the servers.
2. Quit MAMP (and/or MAMP PRO)
3. Rename the folder /Applications/MAMP e.g. to /Applications/MAMP_old
4. Copy the new MAMP folder to your Applications folder.
5. Copy the databases and other files that you want to keep to the new MAMP folder from the old one. Databases are located under /Applications/MAMP/db but there are possibly also other files that you want to keep like the folder /Applications/MAMP/htdocs or configuration files within /Applications/MAMP/conf.
6. Start new MAMP (or MAMP PRO).

If you do it this way then everything should be OK and you still have a backup folder MAMP_old. You can burn it to a CD to be sure that nothing get lost.

Thanks,
